Simplicity of POCT

For the Health Care Professional:
Point of care testing can eliminate the time spent handling, storing and shipping specimens and communicating results.

For Patients taking Clozapine:
Point of care testing streamlines the process for patients, no more waiting in groups, no more appointments, no more waiting for results.  One simple trip to 1st Avenue Pharmacy does it all.  Our state of the art testing system does not require a venous blood draw, just a simple fingerstick.

Best of All...
Patients simple prefer immediate results and the opportunity to discuss those results face to face with a pharmacist specialized in mental health care.  Our pharmacists have over 20 years combined experience working directly with patients suffering from mental illness.

an innovative pharmacy

We strive to be a leader in the industry and serve as a model for other pharmacies specializing in mental healthcare.  We are continually searching for new and innovative approaches, and procedures to help our mental health patients and our professional medical partners.

We are the first pharmacy in the area to offer pharmacist administered intramuscular injections of antipsychotic medications.  We schedule the customer an appointment date, in which they can sit down one-on-one with an experienced pharmacist who counsels, monitors for adverse side effects, and administers the antipsychotic medication.  We then report back to the prescriber by fax and/or phone of the patient’s well-being, mental health and call backs for missed appointments.

We are also the only pharmacy in Washington State to offer Point of Care Testing for patients taking clozapine.  Point of Care Testing has been used in numerous applications such as blood glucose, blood gases, electrolytes, hematocrit, creatinine, lithium levels, prothrombin time, lipid levels, and CBC's.  It requires a small amount of blood and is minimally invasive, which is very useful for patients requiring routine monitoring such as clozapine management.

Additionally...

  • We have received Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification, and are regularly surveyed and inspected.  We are monitored and inspected for compliance in quality assurance, personnel, proficiency testing, and policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Horiba desk top hematology analyzer provides a 16 parameter histogram and is intended for use in clinical laboratories and small clinics.
  • Capillary blood testing is a safe and effective tool for routine blood monitoring i.e. blood glucose, PT/INR, lipid profile, and CBC.
  • Additionally we routinely monitor for metabolic syndrome (checking height/weight, body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, and blood glucose)
  • Sample clozapine CBC and monitoring form
